Duck Creek Village, Utah · 8,500 Feet Elevation
Life at 8,500 Feet.
Everything You Need to Know.
Duck Creek Village is a remote mountain community deep in the Dixie National Forest. That remoteness is exactly what makes it extraordinary — and exactly what requires a little preparation. This guide covers everything.
The Village
A Village Unlike Any Other.
Duck Creek Village sits at 8,500 feet in the heart of the Dixie National Forest on Utah's Markagunt Plateau — one of the most striking high-elevation landscapes in the American West. A handful of cabins, a few seasonal businesses, and miles of national forest in every direction. This is not a resort town. It’s the real thing.
The village is small by design. No traffic, no crowds, no noise except wind through the pines. What it offers instead: two national parks within an hour, a ski resort 30 miles away, world-class fishing, and 500+ miles of trails right from the doorstep.

Know Before You Go
Remote by Design.
Plan Accordingly.
Duck Creek Village is a remote mountain community with limited services. That’s part of what makes it extraordinary — and part of what makes a little preparation essential before you arrive.
Groceries & Supplies
Duck Creek Village has no full grocery store. Stock up before you arrive. Panguitch (30 miles) has a small market; Cedar City (45 miles) has full grocery stores including Walmart and local markets. We recommend arriving with everything you need for your stay.
Dining
Several seasonal restaurants operate in the village: Aunt Sue’s Chalet (homemade pies & cooking), Hot Mama’s Pizza & Brew, DC Pub & Grill (the local’s favorite), Ground & Toasted (coffee & sourdough), and Pinewoods Resort (award-winning chefs). Hours are seasonal and limited — call ahead. Cedar City (45 mi) has full dining year-round.
Fuel
There is no gas station in Duck Creek Village. The nearest fuel is in Panguitch (30 miles) or Cedar City (45 miles). Arrive with a full tank — especially in winter when road conditions can change quickly and detours add miles.
Cell Service
Cell service in Duck Creek Village is limited and unreliable. Most carriers show weak to no signal in the village. Your cabin has Wi-Fi. Download offline maps, save important numbers, and let family know your plans before you lose signal on the drive up.
Medical & Emergency
The nearest hospital is Cedar City Regional Hospital, approximately 45 miles away. A small clinic operates seasonally in the area, but for any serious medical need, Cedar City is your destination. In a true emergency, call 911.
Pets & Wildlife
Duck Creek Village is surrounded by active wildlife habitat. Black bears, mountain lions, elk, and mule deer are regularly sighted. Keep food secured, never leave pets unattended outside, and respect the forest. Confirm your cabin’s pet policy at booking.
Winter Road Access
4WD or AWD with snow tires is required from October through April. Duck Creek Village sits at 8,500 feet, and the access road (Utah Highway 14) passes through exposed mountain terrain that accumulates significant snow and ice.
In severe weather, Highway 14 may close temporarily. UDOT posts road conditions at udottraffic.utah.gov — check before you depart. If the highway is closed, there is no alternate route to Duck Creek Village.
Pack chains as a backup. Carry extra food, water, and warm layers in your vehicle during winter months. The weather can change quickly at elevation, and being prepared is not optional — it’s essential.
